The second graduation ceremony of the week — niece Sarah’s high school graduation in western Kentucky. The speeches during the event were interesting to say the least. One of the valedictorians decided to save his speech copy on a calculator “to be different.” The result that his speech was full of really long pauses as he had to wait every 30 seconds or so for the small screen on his calculator to refresh. (I can only presume that he didn’t test his approach first with a dry run before he reached the microphone on Friday night.) Another decided to deliver his speech off-the-cuff — which really only works if you are a great speaker. Anyway, once the formalities over with, the student body immediately erupted into celebrations by tossing caps in the air and letting fly with the silly string.
